Jousting armor is a bit of a different story, as it was intended entirely for sport rather than war. Even then, though, full plate wasn't as restrictive as popular fiction portrays it, with fully armored knights being able to do gymnastics. One could also argue that mail allows one to move freely, therefore making it easier to dodge. This means that a lot of people, myself included, end up with skewed preconceptions about them. Interesting! I suppose it would depend on the hauberk, I'm sure some were probably heavier, but it seems a lot of historical weapons and armor end up being a lot lighter than they are portrayed in popular fiction. It weights about the same as a padded armor irl and its used in conjunction, doesnt do anything against a blunt blow, and padded brigandine is usually worn under it in the 1100s->1600s.
